2003-12-08 Lucky Country, Halloween 2003 Music students at the TAFE where I work were running a big event in Newcastle called Newcastle Music Week. This included a full week of gigs, in the day and the night at a variety of venues. I had put the collective Bitchcraft hand up for a gig. So we got to play this fine Friday (oh, hang on, it was raining) night at the Lucky (or Fucky as it is called when you get pissed and irreverant). Usually we decline Lucky Country shows, because the lug up the two flights of stairs is heinous… The band we were playing with were ones we had never played with before (with names like Mantle and Running With Scissors). In fact, Mantle had a projector, but all they had projected behind them was their simple logo. Forgive me, but if I had that kind of stuff I would be doing much more than just having a static log. But no matter… Some of my work mates, Donna and Maggie came, which was a bit exciting for me. We played a pretty awesome set, with some appropriate Halloween facepaint. We harrassed the crowd for not knowing anything about metal, talked about head jobs and just talked a lot of shit. We did what is possibly one of the most rock moves we have ever done: me and Nodda back to back, playing the hell guitar break in “Why Couldn’t You Pick Someone Else”. Then Simi, in a stroke of genius crawled between us, tunnel ball style. Fuck it was cool, and hopefully we will have some photos. We made lots of friends that night, and Donna said she just wanted to get up and scream with us! |
